'How can you as a head coach bench Eli Manning? He is a two-time Super Bowl Champion. Tom Coughlin would never treat Eli like that!'
Guess what people? Tom Coughlin hasn't coached the Giants since Eli Manning's play started to decline. Eli Manning did win two Super Bowls and two Super Bowl MVPs, but that was seven years ago. What has he done since? In the previous six seasons, he has led his Giants' to the playoffs only once. In their last playoff trip, Eli and the Giants failed to even win a game, as they went one-down during the 2016 postseason. You Giants' fans still wanna gloat about your team beating Tom Brady and the New England Patriots twice in the Super Bowl? I heard Michael Rapaport say on 'Undisputed' couple weeks ago, that he still enjoys watching the final few moments of those two Super Bowls because it prevented the Patriots from becoming the greatest team of all-time.
Rapaport, even with those losses, Tom Brady and the Patriots are much more successful than your entire franchise. Brady has five rings, while the Giants organization in fifty-two years have managed to win a total of four rings. Pats have been extremely consistent with going to the playoffs since 2001. They haven't missed a trip to the playoffs since 2008. You guys, on the other hand, have been to the playoffs only twice since 2008. You happy with that? Last year, the Giants went 3-13! You are happy about that? I'm sure you like getting Saquan Barkley with a top-two pick, but you will be picking in the top three to top five again next year. I guess you don't mind being the new Cleveland Browns since you guys beat Tom Brady and the Patriots back in 2007 and 2011.
Stop it and wake up! You need to start with apologizing to Ben McAdoo. Why? He informed all of you last year that Eli Manning was done when he benched him for the backup quarterback. The only thing I didn't understand at the time was, why he benched Eli for Geno Smith? He should have let the third-round quarterback Davis Webb play instead of Geno.
If you say the Giants fired McAdoo because the team failed to win games and compete against their opponents, then you are absolutely wrong. Ben McAdoo, in his first year as the head coach of the G-Men, led them to the playoffs with an 11-5 record. He won double-digit games and led them to the playoffs. That was something the Giants hadn't done since 2008. Yes, the Giants were pretty awful in 2017 as they managed to win only three games, but are we just going to ignore all the injuries they suffered on offense? Are we going to completely ignore how bad their offensive line was? Are we going to ignore their running game, which wasn't there at all? Finally, are we going to ignore that Eli wasn't the same quarterback as he was from 2007-2012?
No coach can completely change the culture of a team in two years. According to Bill Belichick, who is considered by many as the greatest coach of all-time said, that a coach needs more than three years to get his system running successfully. Belichick spoke of this after the Philadephia Eagles fired head coach Chip Kelly in less than three full seasons. Yes, some coaches have won in the playoffs in less than three years, but in order to be considered a real successful coach, you need time and patience from your owner and fans.
So tell me Giants' fans. How is the genius Pat Shurmur doing for your team right now? He is 1-5 just like McAdoo was after the first six games of the season a year ago. Do you want to fire Shurmur already? Or have you finally realized that Eli Manning is the problem? Giants as a team are not really that good, but they have a better overall roster than last year, and most of their key players are healthy. They should have been better than last year! With this roster, they should have been 4-2, not 1-5. If Eli was still a decent quarterback, if he was still the guy, the Giants would have been a pretty strong and a competitive team.
Eli Manning, I may not be your fan, but I have a lot of respect for you. Yes, with all the things that I just said, it may seem like I despise you. That is not the case! I didn't like how you beat my Patriots in the Super Bowls of 2007 and 2011, but you are a great dude with a great personality. You do know that you are not the same player as you once were? Therefore, you should consider hanging it up. If you don't want to retire in the middle of the season, then just head to the sidelines and let Kyle Lauletta take over as the starting quarterback of the Giants. Help him grow, help him win games, and help him succeed as the new face of the New York Football Giants!
