Quarterbacks Of Now And The Future.

Let's face it, without great quarterbacks and the amazing things they do on the field, we wouldn't like football as much as we do. Can you imagine if Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers all decide to retire next year together? NFL would hate to see that. I mean, a lot of viewers watch football just because of those three guys. I became a football fan because of Tom Brady. Maybe that explains why I admire him so much. So anyway, we wouldn't want to see Brady, Brees, and Rodgers to all retire at the same time, but even if they do, we will have four young quarterbacks who will provide us excellent football for at least the next ten years.

So who are the four quarterbacks who have shown potential to dominate the league for the next ten to fifteen years? I like Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Josh Rosen, but since this is their first year in the league, I'm going to wait for at least a year before I acknowledge them as very good to great quarterbacks, who will take over the league someday. The four quarterbacks who will surely excite the fans with their amazing plays are Deshaun Watson, Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, and Patrick Mahomes.

Deshaun Watson is my favorite quarterback among all the young quarterbacks in the NFL. Why? He's very cool and calm, he is competitive, he possesses winner's mentality, and he doesn't show off. When I watch Deshaun play, I see a player who prefers winning over putting up big time stats for the game. Who does he remind me of? He reminds me of Tom Brady. Deshaun Watson has the 'it factor'. He led the Clemson Tigers to back to back National Title games during his college days. He went 1-1 in those big games, but in both of those games, he did everything possible to win them. Watson has the potential to change the fortunes of the Houston Texans, just like Brady changed the fortunes of the New England Patriots starting from 2001.

How about Carson Wentz? When Wentz came into the league, many of the experts acknowledged his talents, but no one saw him bringing a new life to the Philadephia Eagles franchise. In his rookie year, Wentz led the Eagles to a 7-9 record, but he showed a lot of promise. Lots of non-believers started to believe in Wentz and then started making strong predictions for him and the Eagles. Following year, Wentz led the Eagles to an 11-2 record before he got hurt in a game against the LA Rams. The Eagles ended up winning the Super Bowl that year with Nick Foles playing the remainder of the regular season and all of the post-season. However, if it wasn't for Carson Wentz playing out of his mind in the first thirteen games of the regular season, there was no way the Eagles would have gone to the playoffs and then win three straight playoff games to win their very first Super Bowl title. Eagles' fans can't wait for Wentz to bring them more jewelry.

Can one year in this league make a difference? In 2016, Jared Goff was considered a bust by almost everybody. Then he met Sean McVay and he became a top ten quarterback. His numbers and decision making improved significantly from 2016 to 2017 and so far this year, he is playing like an MVP. Goff has his LA Rams sitting at the top of NFC and NFL after eight games into the season. Right now, the Rams are the only unbeaten team. Hall of Famer, Eric Dickerson who played for the Rams from 1983 to 1987, raves about Jared Goff. Dickerson believes the passes that Goff throws are a lot like the passes Joe Montana threw when he was playing. To be mentioned in the same sentence as Joe Montana by another Hall of Fame player is one of the highest praises you can ever receive for playing the quarterback position.

Patrick Mahomes is the most exciting player to watch in this league. No one should debate that! If you ask me, he is the most exciting player in NFL history besides Michael Vick. Mahomes can electrify the crowd with deep passes he throws to his receivers for big gains and/or touchdowns. Too early to give him the nod to be a top-five quarterback in the future as this is his first year as a starter, but he will get there. Jared Goff right now is playing like an MVP, but Patrick Mahomes is the MVP so far in the season. Mahomes just doesn't throw bombs with his eyes closed, but he makes great decisions with the football, and he throws accurate passes to his playmakers. He is only going to get better as he is learning from one of the best teachers in the game of football in Andy Reid. We are so lucky to watch him on a weekly basis.

So Watson, Wentz, Goff, and Mahomes are my quarterbacks of the future. There is one name missing. Jimmy Garoppolo! Don't get me wrong, he is a special player with lots of talent and he is very smart. Garoppolo learned the quarterback position from three football geniuses in Tom Brady, Josh McDaniels, and Bill Belichick. However, he hasn't played a full season as a starting quarterback yet. I'm going to wait on Garoppolo for a year before I say definitely that he is going to be a great quarterback. Next year for the 2019 season, if he misses more than a quarter of the season, then I don't think he will be able to last in this league. To be considered a great quarterback, you have to be out there on the field, and Garoppolo knows that.

Let's see what the future holds for these talented football players.

Who Is Going To Be The Green Bay Packers' New Coach?

Last year, the Green Bay Packers missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years. The reason why they couldn't make it to the postseason was that Aaron Rodgers, missed the majority of the season after he suffered an injury in a week six matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. However this year, with Rodgers having played every single game in the season so far, the Packers are 4-7-1 after twelve games. They just lost to the Arizona Cardinals who have a rookie quarterback under center. With that loss, the Packers are now only one loss away from missing the playoffs in back to back years. Last time the Green Bay Packers missed the playoffs in back to back years was in 2005 and 2006.   Oh, following the loss to the Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers' fired their long-time head coach, Mike McCarthy.   All the blame for the Packers being this bad went to Mike McCarthy and the defense. Some of the blame did go to the Packers' running game, but that's about it. Peo

Wildcard Round Was Fun, But The Playoffs Are About To Get Better!

Last week was a good week of football. But you know, that was just the beginning. Rarely teams from the wild-card weekend go on to win Super Bowls. Last time a team that participated in the wild-card round and won a Super Bowl was the Baltimore Ravens from 2012. Is there any chance that a team from the wild-card round could win a Super Bowl this year? In my opinion, there are three teams from the wild-card round, who could win it all. The LA Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and the defending champs, the Philadelphia Eagles. All three teams won their respective wild-card matchups this past week. Let's talk about their path to Super Bowl this year. Dallas Cowboys   So how good are the Dallas Cowboys? They are very good. They are not an elite team, but they can play elite football on certain nights. The Cowboys' defense is really good. Their offense is just above average. Not saying Dak Prescott is an average or a below average quarterback, they just don't have enough playma

What If Calvin Johnson Didn't Retire?

Since 2015, most of the NFL World has been debating whether Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, or Odell Beckham Jr. is the best receiver in the game. Mind you, 2015 was the last season that Calvin Johnson played. According to me, Calvin Johnson was the best receiver until his last season! That guy was big and fast. Calvin Johnson at 6'5, 237 pounds, was able to do everything one could ask a receiver to do. I started watching football in 2010. Calvin was the receiver who caught my eye. Time after time, I saw him double covered and then him beating the coverage to catch the ball for a big gain. There were times when he was triple-covered and he still made a play. I doubt there was a corner, who wasn't scared of him. How do you stop someone so big, strong, and fast? You can't! You just can't stop this beast! However, Calvin chose to retire at the age of 30, after playing nine seasons. He retired after six straight seasons with over 1000 receiving yards. It didn't seem l
