Week 3 Sunday Takeaways!

What an awesome football Sunday we had last night. We had a high scoring one o clock game between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints in Atlanta. Those of you who don't have Sunday Ticket, I feel sorry that you guys missed on such a high-flying game. For the defenses, that game wasn't as fun, but for the offenses, it was pretty exciting. After that game, we all got to witness Patrick Mahomes doing magic for such an incredible start to a career, as he had a solid overall game against another team. However, in that game, we lost Jimmy Garaopplo for possibly an extended period of time. Seattle Seahawks and the New York Giants finally got their first win of the season. The Giants looked really dominant in their win against the Houston Texans. Last but not least, we had a huge upset for our Sunday night game (there was an upset earlier in the afternoon, as the Buffalo Bills defeated the Minnesota Vikings).

Drew Brees Outduels Matt Ryan in Atlanta!

It certainly was a great game between two extraordinary quarterbacks. Every single person who was watching this game must have had a tough time with keeping their eyes off it. There were eighty combined points scored, nine lead changes, and the two quarterbacks combined for ten touchdowns. Drew Brees, in the end, wanted this game more than Matt Ryan. He sacrificed his body, as he ran for one touchdown to tie the game, and jumped for the other one to win it. Cris Carter, who was calling this game between the Saints and the Falcons, praised Drew Brees for keeping himself in shape and still being able to make big plays in the big moments. As Carter was praising Brees for keeping himself in shape, he took a shot at Tom Brady. With the fourth quarter coming to a conclusion, Carter said.., "People always talk about Tom Brady keeping himself in shape by eating avocado ice cream and all, but Drew Brees is in the same ballpark too. Brees doesn't ask for the attention as Brady does." Cris Carter, it is good that you are praising Drew Brees, but come on, you didn't need to take a shot at Brady. If Carter was just poking fun at Brady, then it's absolutely fine, but taking a serious shot at Brady was unnecessary.

Matt Ryan, on the other hand, had a pretty good game but couldn't close it out. He is one of those guys who can put up all the big stats, win some big games, but never gets to win them on a consistent basis. Ryan is accurate for most of the game, but sometimes in the fourth quarter, he is similar to Mattew Stafford and/or Andy Dalton. I have seen Matt Ryan dominate in the first half, or the first three and a half quarters of the game, but when its time to make 'the play,' he either takes the sack, fumbles the ball, throws an interception, or throws the pass way over his intended receiver. Ryan should know that legends are made in the fourth quarters. To be considered a great player and not just a very good quarterback, he needs to win the big games by making big plays in the big moments. I know he has the potential to do it, but he actually needs to do it to prove my point and to have his critics start believing in him.

Patrick Mahomes just might be this good.

In his first career start, against a very talented LA Chargers' defense, Patrick Mahomes completed over fifty-five percent of his passes for 256 yards and four touchdown passes. A week later against the team that keeps beating Kansas City Chiefs in the regular season and in the postseason, Mahomes beat the Pittsburgh Steelers by completing a staggering eighty-two percent of his passes for 326 yards and six touchdown passes. Yesterday, against the upcoming San Francisco 49ers team, Mahomes completed just over sixty-three percent of his passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He is yet to throw an interception this season. I know it is way too early to crown him as a top three, top five quarterback, but if he keeps this up for the majority of the season and wins one or two playoff games this year, he should be considered by the defenses and by the defensive coordinators, as someone who is going to be great for a long time!

Jimmy G out for the year? Seems like it.

It hasn't been confirmed yet that Jimmy Garoppolo is going to miss the remainder of 2018 season, but whenever there is a feeling of a player possibly tearing his ACL, he usually ends up missing the entire season. It is a sad day not just for the 49ers' fans, but for the entire league. Jimmy Garoppolo was expected to change the fortunes of the 49ers starting from this year, but now everybody will need to wait on that. He has a lot of upsides, lots of talent, and has learned from the best quarterback in Tom Brady, and from the best coach in Bill Belichick. Jimmy Garoppolo must be thinking to himself about this injury and its impact on his career down the road. He did suffer an injury back in 2016 when he was filling in for Tom Brady during his four-game suspension, and now two years later, he suffered a significant one. If Garoppolo suffers another injury in a year or two, then his career may be over sooner than we think. Wish him the very best!

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots looked awful last night!

They are 1-2 for the first time since 2012. It is very rare to see the Patriots go 1-2 after the first three weeks of the season. It is rare to see them lose to a team like Detriot Lions, who came into week three with an 0-2 record, who looked pretty awful themselves in week one against the New York Jets, and who were without their best player on defense. So what happened to the Patriots last night? We all know their defense isn't even close to being decent, and they don't have playmakers on offense. But they still have Tom Brady, right? What happened to him? The way he was carrying himself to the field and then back to the sidelines throughout the entire game, didn't feel like he had his focus in the game. It felt like he had an argument with somebody and was really sad. He usually gets frustrated and angry when his team goes 'three and out' multiple times in the game. He wasn't angry or furious last night. He was quiet the entire time. Last night, they started the game by going three and out in their first three drives of the game. That's not how the Patriots play offense.

To say that the Detriot Lions played a hell of a game would be an overstatement. Do upsets happen in this league? Sure they do, but who saw the Lions' defense holding Tom Brady and the Patriots to ten points for the entire game? We are talking about the Lions' defense going up against Tom Brady, not the Jaguars' defense. Not the Broncos' defense from 2015, and not even the Seahawks defense from 2013 and 2014 season. Even against those defenses, Tom Brady was able to put eighteen points or more. Former Patriots' assistant Matt Patricia and the Lions' defense shut down Tom Brady and his offense on a nationally televised game. How can you even absorb that thought? Tom Brady and the Patriots will turn it around, but last night, they were horrendous. They just didn't want to play last night. The Patriots wanted a night off. In my opinion, they should give the tickets for next week's home game for free, since they didn't honor themselves and their fans. The Lions didn't win the game because they were good, the New England Patriots wanted to lose that game. Guess what? They succeeded in doing so.

Who Is Going To Be The Green Bay Packers' New Coach?

Last year, the Green Bay Packers missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years. The reason why they couldn't make it to the postseason was that Aaron Rodgers, missed the majority of the season after he suffered an injury in a week six matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. However this year, with Rodgers having played every single game in the season so far, the Packers are 4-7-1 after twelve games. They just lost to the Arizona Cardinals who have a rookie quarterback under center. With that loss, the Packers are now only one loss away from missing the playoffs in back to back years. Last time the Green Bay Packers missed the playoffs in back to back years was in 2005 and 2006.   Oh, following the loss to the Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers' fired their long-time head coach, Mike McCarthy.   All the blame for the Packers being this bad went to Mike McCarthy and the defense. Some of the blame did go to the Packers' running game, but that's about it. Peo

Wildcard Round Was Fun, But The Playoffs Are About To Get Better!

Last week was a good week of football. But you know, that was just the beginning. Rarely teams from the wild-card weekend go on to win Super Bowls. Last time a team that participated in the wild-card round and won a Super Bowl was the Baltimore Ravens from 2012. Is there any chance that a team from the wild-card round could win a Super Bowl this year? In my opinion, there are three teams from the wild-card round, who could win it all. The LA Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and the defending champs, the Philadelphia Eagles. All three teams won their respective wild-card matchups this past week. Let's talk about their path to Super Bowl this year. Dallas Cowboys   So how good are the Dallas Cowboys? They are very good. They are not an elite team, but they can play elite football on certain nights. The Cowboys' defense is really good. Their offense is just above average. Not saying Dak Prescott is an average or a below average quarterback, they just don't have enough playma

What If Calvin Johnson Didn't Retire?

Since 2015, most of the NFL World has been debating whether Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, or Odell Beckham Jr. is the best receiver in the game. Mind you, 2015 was the last season that Calvin Johnson played. According to me, Calvin Johnson was the best receiver until his last season! That guy was big and fast. Calvin Johnson at 6'5, 237 pounds, was able to do everything one could ask a receiver to do. I started watching football in 2010. Calvin was the receiver who caught my eye. Time after time, I saw him double covered and then him beating the coverage to catch the ball for a big gain. There were times when he was triple-covered and he still made a play. I doubt there was a corner, who wasn't scared of him. How do you stop someone so big, strong, and fast? You can't! You just can't stop this beast! However, Calvin chose to retire at the age of 30, after playing nine seasons. He retired after six straight seasons with over 1000 receiving yards. It didn't seem l
